Smithers Co-Working Space Becoming a Reality
The Bulkley Valley Economic Development Association is pleased to announce that funding has been secured to create the first Smithers Co-Working Space in our community. The Smithers Co-Working Space is going to be located within the current BVEDA office at 201 - 3848 3rd avenue.
Thanks to the Wetzin'kwa Community Forest Corporation grant program, the BVEDA was able to secure funding for work stations for businesspersons to use. The idea came about when it was determined that many people in the Bulkley Valley who worked from home wanted to work in a more professional setting. Cost for an independent office space had been prohibiting many of these businesspersons from leaving their home offices. The BVEDA recognized this gap and is filling it. The Smithers Co-Working Space will provide desk space, a meeting room, and a boardroom for renters to use for a modest fee. The fee structure ranges from $20 per day to $200 per month. A weekly rate of $80 per week is also available.
Another benefit to having various businesspeople work within the same office is the chance for casual interactions. These interactions can often lead to discussions of new ideas and potential startups. The ideas created through casual discussions may not have occurred had there not been a place for them to happen such as a co-working space.
The expected opening date is August 2013.
