Small Town Love Program Comes to the Bulkley Valley

Smithers and Telkwa are now feeling the Small Town Love.  Small Town Love is a program designed to promote the small, independent businesses that make towns unique said Renata King, Northern Development Initiative Trust business development director.  It provides professional photography of their services and operation and an online presence with a business profile.

Smithers and Telkwa businesses are now being encouraged to sign up for Small Town Love at www.lovesmithers.com and www.lovetelkwa.com.

"We want  these types of businesses to be successful because they provide colour and character to your community," King said.  "We're hoping the Small Town Love movement will grow across the north and we hope to build a network of communities that are taking part."

Northern Developmnent funded a Small Town Love pilot program in six communities last year and because of its success, it was expanded to include Smithers and Telkwa and seven other northern B.C. communities.  More than 200 businesses took part in the initiative in it's first year, King said.

"It's a buy local program that is focused on highlighting and celebrating the local and independently-owned businesses in a community," she explained.  "It's a branding initiative that gives them a professional platform to sell their products."

Small Town Love was founded by Quesnel entrepreneur Amy Quarry, who wanted to celebrate central and northern B.C's unique independent businesses.  The program is a partnership between Quarry and Northern Development.
